Russian Souvenir Clock
In the very heart of the hotel’s Business Building, its Atrium, stands the Russian Souvenir clock decorated with folklore motifs. A legend with almost half a century of history, the Golden Cockerel on top of the timepiece column greets everyone who comes in; three dials are placed under it, with a theater of fairytale motifs adorning the composition. The Cockerel’s plumes are covered with gold leaf—700 very thin sheets. Every hour from 12:00pm to 08:00pm, it regales us with its singing. Fun fact: The voice of a real rooster, recorded in a Ryazan village, is used for the hotel’s Cockerel.
The music for the clock was selected by the renowned composer Alexandra Pakhmutova, and the work on the outward appearance of the clock was supervised by the USSR Art Fund. The clock mechanism, which was recognized as an invention of national importance, was designed by the Clockmaking Industry Research Institute.
Among others, the uniqueness of this object was praised by Sarah Fabergé, a great-granddaughter of the famous jeweler Carl Fabergé, during her visit to World Trade Center Moscow in 2018. “I really liked the Cockerel Clock. It’s fantastic! Amazing, and very much in the Fabergé spirit!” she said.
